President Joe Biden plans to visit both Florida and Puerto Rico in the wake of separate, devastating hurricanes that have left millions on the island and in the Sunshine State without power and overwhelmed with property damage.
The president made those pledges during a visit to Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters to thank those responding to the storm and to reassure Floridians and Puerto Ricans that the federal government would do everything in its power to help them.
“We know many families are hurting. Our entire country hurts with them,” Biden said of Florida residents enduring what he said “could be the deadliest hurricane in Florida’s history.”
“My message to the people of Florida and to the country: At times like this, America comes together. We’re going to pull together as one team, as one America,” Biden said.
Biden added that he had spoken with GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis and both Democratic and Republican mayors and told them, “We are here. We are going to do everything we can to provide what they need.”
